The Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Classroom Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

This course is restricted to SHU students and staff.

Upon successful completion of this 3 part course:

1)     Initial Instructor Course (done online)

2)    Training Center Orientation / Practical

3)    Student Teaching

The canidate will become fully certified to teach all BLS and Heart Saver programs from the AHA.

This class reviews the new material for CPR from the AHA2010 standards.  Students will need to pass both a written and practical test.

Topics include:

Single rescuer CPR

2 rescuer CPR

Using an AED

Using airway adjuncts such as a Bag / Valve / Mask

The Child and Babysitting Safety program is a community education program that covers child safety and basic care techniques for infants and children. CABS stresses the priority to keep you and the children you care for safe. Babysitting is not just “watching” the children, but being responsible for their safety and well being. When you are caring for a child, you are taking care of a parent(s) most prized possession. Everything in their home and your own home can be replaced— everything, that is, except a child.

AHA Heart Saver CPR

Heartsaver  CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult CPR and AED use, as well as how to relieve choking on an adult.  This course teaches skills with AHA’s research-proven Practice-While-Watching (PWW) technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback and guide the students’ learning of skills.

AHA Heart Saver First Aid

Heartsaver  First Aid CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives.  Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies.  This course also teaches adult CPR and AED use.

This is the course for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, and other lifesaving skills in a professional setting such as a hospital, ambulance, lifeguard etc.

This class in particular is restricted to Seaton Hall Students and Staff.

This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

Lifeguarding* (15+ years old)
Ideal for lifeguards working at traditional pools.
The course teaches professionalism, patron and facility surveillance, victim recognition, equipment-based rescues, and caring for head, neck and back injuries.

31.25 hour

This class meets from 9 - 5 on the weekend days, and from 5 - 9 on the weekdays

This is a 1 day challange course for experienced Lifeguards.  No prompting will be given.  Students will be required to complete the lifeguard written test and practical tests.  Please make sure you practice before you arrive at this course.

This American Red Cross class trains students to be lifeguards at waterfront swiming areas such as lakes and beach clubs.

Friday June 1st :  6 - 9 pm

Sat / Sun, June 2 & 3, 8 & 9: 9am - 5pm

This course is intended for existing lifeguards who want to upgrade thier certification to the Waterfront standards.  Students will need to be proficient in all basic lifeguarding techiques before the start of this course.

We will cover using surf boards, boats and other search tools.
