This course is intended for existing lifeguards who want to upgrade thier certification to the Waterfront standards.  Students will need to be proficient in all basic lifeguarding techiques before the start of this course.

We will cover using surf boards, boats and other search tools.

:. Basic Defensive Pistol, 2 day course

When: August 2, 2012

Prerequisites:  None

 

Upon completion of this course you will have a fundamental understanding of the defensive use of the handgun. Among the many skills you acquire will be the ability to safely and easily draw your weapon from the holster and fire two, sighted shots to the center of a target 5 yards away – all under 1.5 seconds!

Lecture Topics Include: Use of Deadly Force and the Law; Situational Awareness; Stopping Power; Civil Liability; and more.

Firing Range Drills Include: Loading and Unloading; Grip, Stance, Sight Picture, Sight Alignment, and Trigger Control; Presentation from a Holster; Target Engagement from Arms Length to 15 yards under Time Pressure; Malfunction Clearing; Speed and Tactical Reloading; and more!

This is the same type of course found at many well known firearms academies such as Gunsite, Front Sight, Thunder Range and others.  Our instructors have many years of experience teaching at these academies.  We are simply bringing that same type of experience to New Jersey!

 

Once your payment is complete, you will be sent an email from info@minebrooksar.org with the paperwork necessary to complete your registration, including your authorization for a criminal background check and a character referral.  It is very important we receive this paperwork back ASAP and in no case less than 2 weeks prior to your course start date

What you will need for class

 

Semi automatic handguns or revolvers are acceptable, caliber size 9mm up to and including 45 cal, 38 special is also ok. 

A backup firearm is recommended but not required.

NOTICE - .22 cal cannot be used as the firearm can potentially be damaged during class. 

The firearm must have a holster that covers both the trigger and trigger guard, and a sturdy belt that will sufficiently support and manage the weight of the firearm.

Semi automatics owners should have two magazines, three are preferred but two is acceptable. 

For revolvers speed loaders, speed strips or moon clips, two is acceptable but more is better.

A magazine pouch, speed loader or moon clip holder is preferred however, a pocket is also sufficient.

You will need 400 rounds of factory (NO reloads) ammunition for the 2 day basic class.

You will need eye protection.  Sunglasses that wrap around your eye are preferred.

A hat with a brim such as a baseball cap.

Electronic ear protection is required. 

 

For you comfort you will want to bring.

 

Lunch.  Some of your favorite snacks to munch on.  A non-alcoholic drink.  Water is available.

A comfortable chair to rest in.

Sun screen.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

You will be training presenting your firearm from the holster with and without a concealment garment.  The concealment garment can be open or closed in front.  A tee shirt or other pull over shirt works well as a closed front garment.  A lightweight button up shirt or vest works well as an open front garment.

Prerequsites:  Basic Defensive Pistol or equivalent, Experienced IDPA Shooters, Active LE Officers - all subject to the evaluation of the instructors

This course builds on the Basic Defensive Pistol course and upon completion you will have a comprehensive  understanding of the defensive use of the handgun. Among the many skills you hone in this course will be the ability to safely and easily draw your weapon from the holster, under concealment, and fire two, sighted shots to the center of a target 5 yards away – all under 1.5 seconds!  We will also cover and practice low light situations.

Lecture Topics Include: We will reinforce the topics of the Basic Course: Use of Deadly Force and the Law; Situational Awareness; Stopping Power; Civil Liability; and more.

:. Advanced Defensive Pistol

Prerequistes:  Successful graduation from the Intermediate Defensive Pistol or equlivant OR other experience subject to the acceptance by the instructors.

In the advanced class we continue to build on all basic and intermediate skills.  In addition we will one handed shooting, one handed malfunction clearances (both firing hand and support hand).  We cover shooting on the move, use of cover and or concealment, shooting platforms and engaging hostel targets in an environment of innocent bystanders.
